In assemble-to-order production, the standardized product components are planned and held on stock and after the customer order is placed, the final assembly takes place according to customer requirements.  Typically, the final assembly operations are not complicated, therefore assemble-to-order manufacturing does not involve complex planning and scheduling. Individual assembly orders are scheduled and released after respective customer orders have been placed. However, the availability of components is fundamental for this approach and must be ensured.

Components are planned and held on stock (main value adding production process) based on sales order the final assembly takes place. Following strategies are available for integration with sales: Assemble-to-order with Planned Orders Assemble-to-order with Production Orders
